Short and Sweet

The type of poetry that I enjoy to read and listen to is the laid back poetry.  I enjoy the laid back fun type of poetry because to me, it is not deep and sappy and it is just fun to read.  I am not much of a reader to begin with, but if I am reading something fun i can focus on it much longer.
Shel Silverstein is a great poet to me.  All of Silverstein's poems are clever and easy to follow.  Silverstein also keeps his poems short and sweet with a good rhyme scheme so it really keeps the reader involved.  Although Silverstein writes for children people of all ages can sit down and read one of his poems and enjoy reading it and maybe even get a laugh out of it.  I am not a huge fan of the poems that are about feelings and nature, they seem much too drawn out to me, but to each his own.  One of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems is "Ticklish Tom".  The poem is fun, it has a really good rhyme scheme, and it is short and sweet.
Although many people like poems for their deep feelings and great descriptive nature, I do not.  I like the short poems that are easy and fun to read.  The long descriptive poems put me to sleep.  Shel Silverstein writes poetry for children, they are fun and easy to read, and they keep the reader involved. Silverstein's poems are not nearly as monotonous as other writers who go in to great descriptive detail, that is why I greatly enjoy the works of Shel Silverstein.
